East End Southern Music Tour (Is Fun) 2010 Show #6
Friday Jan 07, 2011
Friday Jan 07, 2011
This and the other East End Southern Music Tour (Is Fun) 2010 programs are made up of (mostly) 45rpm records. It is conceivable that some of the 7" vinyl was purchased in the 1960's at Vancouver, B.C.'s HEART & SOUL RECORD SHOP. The East Van business, on Commercial Drive at 1st Avenue, was the first New World African Music record store in Vancouver and probably in Western Canada. It may even have possibly been the first record store to devote itself to the promotion of Black Music in the country. The proprietor of HEART & SOUL passed away on December 19, 2010. Mr. Russell Mar was a gentle, kind soul who gave of himself in that simple way an entrepreneur does. He saw a need and filled it. He filled our lives with music. Russ will be remembered by all of us who love Black Music and all of us who laughed with him and shared time with him. Show # 6 in this series is dedicated to Mr. Russell Mar - The Rhythm 'n' Blues King of Commercial Drive. DJZigZag 1. ( :12) WAGRadio ID 2. Groovin' Blue Christmas Show 2010
Monday Dec 20, 2010
Monday Dec 20, 2010
This 2010 Groovin' Blue Christmas show is dedicated to the memory of a lady whose kindness is in my mind and heart. I often think of Mrs. Phyllis Ramsey and the warmth and openness with which she shared her radiant heart with the many people who knew her. This radiance can be seen in her two beautiful daughters Diane (better known as "Trudy") and Cynthia. Also, WAGRadio personnel are thinking of and offer this show and the other archived Groovin' Blue Xmas programs (2008 and 2009) especially to our listeners and fans who are incarcerated at this time.
